Stop Studying Faith. Start Living It.

Live the Warrior’s Life

Moving from studying faith to actually living it

▶️ Listen to the full episode here: Episode 347

There’s an ancient warrior named Telamon of Arcadia who once said:

“It’s one thing to study war and another thing to live the warrior’s life.”

That line has always stuck with me.

Because the same thing is true spiritually.

It’s one thing to study the Bible.
To talk about faith.
To read about courage.

But it’s something completely different to live it when life gets hard.

When faith moves from theory to reality

The apostle Paul wrote these words to Timothy:

“Keep a clear mind in every situation.
Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord.
Work at telling others the Good News,
and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.”
— 2 Timothy 4:5

Paul wasn’t writing from comfort.
He was writing from prison.

And his message was simple:

Don’t just study the ministry—live it.
Don’t just talk about courage—show it.

The moment my faith was tested

When I was a young Christian, I read Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret.
It told the story of a missionary who went to Asia and made a powerful impact for God.

I loved that book.
I loved the idea of missionary life.

But then one day, I got a phone call:

“We’d like you to move to Japan and do missionary work.”

Suddenly, this wasn’t theory anymore.

It’s one thing to read about missions.
It’s another thing to say yes…
get on a plane…
take your wife and six-week-old baby…
and move across the world.

We said yes.
And it was scary.

But we went—and spent 10 years in Japan.

That’s when I learned something I’ll never forget:

It’s one thing to study faith.
It’s another thing to live it.

Where real discipleship is proven

Paul said, “Don’t be afraid of suffering.”

In other words:

Don’t flinch when following Jesus costs something.

It’s easy to admire faith from the sidelines.
It’s harder to step onto the battlefield of real life—

  • when people misunderstand you
  • when doors close
  • when fear whispers, “You’re not ready.”

But that’s exactly where real discipleship is proven.

Because faith isn’t theory.

Faith is practice under pressure.

When you:

  • share the gospel even when it’s uncomfortable
  • serve when it’s inconvenient
  • refuse to quit in hard seasons

You’re not just studying Christianity.

You’re living it.
You’re living the warrior’s life.

The question we all have to answer

So here’s the challenge:

Are you studying faith… or living it?

Learning is good.
Growing is good.

But at some point, what you know has to step into the real world.

Maybe living it means:

  • telling someone about Jesus today
  • forgiving someone who hurt you
  • stepping into a ministry role that scares you

Don’t let fear stop you.

Because a 10X Christian doesn’t run from the fight.
They stand firm—trusting that God has already won the battle.

One final thought

It’s one thing to study the Christian life.

It’s another thing to live it boldly.

And that’s the life God is calling you to.

A life with no regrets.
A life that truly counts.
A life that multiplies faith in others.

Let’s live that life—together.
