Two Simple Loves That Can Change Your Whole Life

Have you ever noticed how complicated the Christian life can feel?

So many expectations.
So many responsibilities.
So many things we think we’re supposed to do to follow Jesus well.

And yet, every once in a while, something simple cuts through the noise and reminds us what really matters.

Recently, I was thinking about a powerful quote from missionary Eloy Cruz, shared in Living Faith by President Jimmy Carter:

“You only have to have two loves in your life — for God and for the person in front of you at any particular time.”

That’s it.
Two loves.

If we truly lived those two loves out, we would fulfill almost everything Jesus ever asked of us.

Love Begins With God

The apostle John writes in 1 John 4:19–21:

“We love because He first loved us.
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar…
Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

John makes something crystal clear:

Your love for God is proven by how you love people.

Not people in theory.
Not people far away.
Not humanity in general.

The person right in front of you.

Where Faith Becomes Real

It’s easy to say, “I love God.”
It’s harder to show patience to the coworker who frustrates you.
To offer kindness to the barista who gets your order wrong.
To extend grace to a family member who pushes your buttons.

But this is exactly where faith becomes real.

Eloy Cruz’s insight is powerful because it exposes a truth:

You can’t love people in general
if you don’t love the person in particular.

Loving God fuels your capacity.
Loving people proves your devotion.

It becomes a beautiful loop of grace where:

  • God’s love fills your heart
  • Your heart overflows toward others
  • Others experience God through you

And suddenly, everyday moments become sacred opportunities.

You don’t need a stage.
You don’t need a microphone.
You don’t need a title.

You just need eyes to see and a heart willing to love.

A Simple Challenge for Today

So let me ask you:

Who is in front of you today
that needs to feel God’s love through you?

Maybe it’s:

  • Someone lonely at work
  • Your spouse or child
  • A stranger serving your coffee
  • A friend quietly struggling

Here’s what loving them can look like:

Slow down.
Look them in the eyes.
Listen deeply.
Smile warmly.
Encourage sincerely.

You don’t have to fix their life.

You just have to make them feel seen and valued.

That’s how 10X Christians change the world—
one person, one moment, one act of love at a time.

The Life That Truly Counts

At the end of the day, the Christian life is not nearly as complicated as we sometimes make it.

You only need two loves:

Love God.
Love the person in front of you.

Live that way, and you’ll find yourself walking exactly where Jesus walked—
living a no-regrets life,
making this life count,
and multiplying God’s love everywhere you go.

Grateful to walk this journey with you.
